Transforming 21st century libraries as spaces for the amplification of citizen science
This article explores the concept of citizen science and its growing relevance in contemporary society. It analyses the various modalities and levels of citizen participation in scientific research, and also exposes some of the barriers that citizen science must still face in order to take a step forward. There is also a review of the different levels of support for the CC by entities such as the European Commission, the Government of Spain and the Generalitat of Catalonia. In addition, the crucial role that libraries play as spaces for the transformation and dissemination of citizen science is examined. These institutions not only facilitate access to scientific information, but also encourage active community participation in citizen science projects.
